Press statement at a peaceful demonstration in Kristiansand city, Norway, 20.12. 2025 – (Ms. Dane Khorn reads the statement in Khmer and Ms. Phyranong Veng reads in Norwegian)
– Thailand must stop invading Cambodia now!
– We need peace and justice for Cambodia!
We, Cambodians-Norwegians in Norway in both the Cambodian Association (DKF) and the Khmer Buddhist Society (KBF) strongly condemn the Thai soldiers and government that have repeatedly manipulated by all means to cause the wars against Cambodia. Thailand’s aggressive action has violated the Ceasefire, the Peace Agreement between the two countries and international laws.
We, Cambodians in Norway, are deeply concerned about the war’s impact on Cambodian civilians, civilian areas and the ancient temples that are a UNESCO World Heritage. In addition, the Thai soldiers have attacked many Cambodian infrastructures like bridges, roads, rural villages, farms, schools, hospitals and many buildings far from the border in Cambodia. As a result, the Thai military has attacked by using F-16, sprayed poisonous gas, and dropped cluster bombs on both Cambodian military and civilian areas – Cambodian civilians were killed 18, injured 79, and displaced 512,010 persons, (Interior Ministry report on the morning of December 20, 2025).
The Cambodian Association and the Khmer Buddhist society would like to encourage the Thai and Cambodian governments to stop the war. Both sides must return to respect the ceasefire on July 28, 2025 and the Peace Agreement in Kuala Lumpur on October 26, 2025. Thailand must release the 18 Cambodian soldiers.
We urge the Cambodian government to work hard with international communities to put the strongest pressure on Thailand. Thailand must respect the international laws and the Paris Peace Accords in 1991 that Thailand was also a signature witness.
The Cambodian government should immediately sue Thailand to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on the border and damage ancient Khmer temples in the border areas. The complaint must follow the Franco-Siam treaties of 1904 and 1907, including with the French colonial maps.
The Cambodian government should also sue Thai military generals and government members to the International Criminal Court (ICC) for causing wars against Cambodia and sue those who are involved in killing and injuring Cambodian civilians.
We would finish this press statement and want to say thank you!
Thank you very much!
